Sougayilang Baitcasting Reel

Baitcasting reels, eg Sougayilang Baitcasting Reel, allow for casting lures like

  • jigs,
  • spinnerbaits
  • crankbaits

with pinpoint accuracy

There is a dialled in drag resistance and requires a higher skill set to be able to thumb the spool as the line flows off.

If you can’t find that sweet spot of thumb pressure, you’ll experience a backlash bird’s nest of tangled line.

Generally, you can launch a lure further with a baitcaster, because the line flows directly straight off the spool and not in a circular motion as with a spinning reel.

However, baitcasters do take some time to master and practice is needed to dial one into your comfort zone.

Someone proficient in casting a baitcaster will have mastery over accuracy and distance in the long run after plenty of practice and are preferred when fishing locations that demand such accuracy, while a spinning reel can be used in virtually every situation possible.

Question 1 :
What kind of rod would be good with this reel?
Answer:
Any casting rod from 6 to 7.5 ft in a medium to medium-heavy would be Ideal. Sougayilang has both all-purpose and species-specific rods that will match your reel perfectly.

Question 2 :
How to determine what is needed left or right
Answer:
If you are used to twisting the handle with the right hand, then choose a right-handed reel.

Question 3:
Does anyone’s reel buzz a lot when casting?
Answer:
All bait casting reels with metal gears and parts can be a bit noisy. Turn the reel upside down and put a drop of oil on the worm gear and make sure the reel and its parts are clean and lubricated.

Question 4 :
Can be used in saltwater?
Answer:
It is fine to use in saltwater, but you need to clean and lubricate it after using.

Question 5 :
I am new to a baitcasting reel, is there any instruction on how to use it?
Answer:
No instruction in the package, but just ask the customer service if anything is confusing.

Question 6 :
What are the differences between carbon material and industrial plastic?
Answer:
The carbon material is more durable, more resistant to high temperature and lighter than industrial plastic, which produces powerful drag power and helps you relieve stress when throwing.

Question 7 :
Does this reel have 9 bearings?
Answer:
YES, a total of 9 high-performance stainless ball bearings, including 1 roller bearing.

The Whopper Plopper is a hard plastic spook-style body, with a rotating propeller section on the rear.

It floats horizontally at rest, and the tailspins in the water on the retrieve, creating the unique “plop, plop, plop” sound and bubble trail.

The key to the Whopper Plopper’s success is its versatility and the fact that it floats on the pause. As long as the tail is spinning and it’s making noise, it’s working.

The simplest and most basic way to fish is just like a buzz bait with a slow steady retrieve. Make a long cast, and start slow-reeling it back to the boat.

The Plopper also works when twitched like a popper or worked with a longer “jerk, jerk, pause” action like with a traditional prop bait.

Experiment with different retrieves until you find one that you’re confident with – and stick with it.

The biggest key is making sure you’re able to hear the droning “plop” as you retrieve it.

One of the coolest things about the Whopper Plopper is it catches them pretty much anywhere bass swim.

The soft plastic swimbait is designed to replicate the profile and movement of small forage fish that bass prey on. For several years the swimbait was a secret of many west coast anglers. Much to their dismay, the word slowly spread across the country and the results made this bait much more than idle dock talk.

The most common issue with most small profile paddle tail style swimbaits is the lack of tail kick produced by the bait when used at slow speeds, in other words, the bait required a fast retrieve that is not desirable when fishing swimbaits.

The Swing Impact, however, affords the angler the ability to retrieve it at the slowest speeds and still the wide tail-kick will be achieved. Even in the fall, the tail has incredible action.

The ribbed or zippered style and thin plastic connection to the tail are the two factors that give this bait its unparalleled swimming action

Where to fish it?

  • Rocky Shorelines and Midlake Structure
  • Sand and Grass flats
  • Ledges and drop off.
  • Around docks

When to fish it?

  • Cold water: The natural suspending action of a jerk bait imitates bait fish dying off in cold water. Although a jerk bait will catch bass all year, oftentimes the colder water will make it a better choice for getting bites than some of your other techniques. When water temperatures are around 50 – 60 degrees a jerk bait is often a great option.
  • When bass are shallow: The max you can get a good jerk bait to go is 12 – 15 feet. This can be a problem if the bass are hanging deeper than 20 feet. Especially, if the water is cold. They are just not as apt to swim up and eat from those depths because of the bass’s slow metabolism. The jerk bait ideally is the most effective when bass are shallower in cold water sitting in about 5 – 12 feet of water.
  • Clear water: The jerk bait is a visual clear water feeding bait. This is why it works so well on smallmouth. In dirty water, the bass are unable to see the dying movements as well. A jerk bait seems to perform better in stained to clear water conditions. Many jerk baits come with rattles to help attract attention in those dirtier water conditions, but often when things are too dingy you are probably better off with a bladed bait of some kind.

How to fish it?

Jerkbait fishing is all about cadence. Experiment with different pause lengths between twitches, (twitch…pause. twitch). Also, try twitching multiple times, (twitch, twitch…pause…twitch). Once you catch your first fish of the day, make a mental note of what your lure had been doing prior to the strike. Generally, the colder the water, the longer the pauses. Sometimes, the fish want pauses as long as 15-30 seconds!

VALHALLA Deep-Diving Crankbait

When the summertime heat is on, a deep-diving crankbait provides some heavyweight bass action.
Reeling a magnum-size, deep-diving crankbait all day can be physically demanding, but this technique’s potential for tricking big bass makes it worth the toil and trouble
Key targets for deep cranking include ledges, humps, bluff-ends, and channel-swing points.
As the water warms, the bass will move closer to the bottom.
Check your electronics to find any sweet spot (logs, brush piles, shell beds, big boulders, etc.) on the structure and try to run your crankbait into it.
Deflecting your crankbait off the sweet spot will trigger more strikes. Making a long cast past your target will enable the crankbait to dive deep enough to hit the sweet spot in the middle of your retrieve.

Line diameter affects a crankbait’s diving capability, so use a thinner line such as a 10- to 12-pound to enable it to reach depths of 20 to 25 feet
